This year we have 10 days holiday called golden week.
This is first trial for workaholic people.
Actually, in my case, I did not take long holiday except new year since 1992. In normal case ,Japanese people take 3 times holiday such as GOLDEN WEEK in may, Summer Holiday in Aug and New years Holiday at the end Dec. All of them are only 4-5 days.
This year , After long holiday, the most of Japanese people say, it is too long. We have no idea how we stay in home or play in such long days…
I worked with European people between 1992 and 1995. They enjoyed long vacation in Summer as well as New Year. It may takes 2 weeks or more.
The most of Japanese people feels safe, if they are in organization such as school, University or company.
We have long history staying at group or organization since more than 1000 years ago.
If we are in group or organization, we feel satisfaction or feel good even if there are no tasks in company.
This is one reason that the most of people prefer to stay long time in the company such as from AM 9:00 to PM9:00.
So we may start to enjoy deferential culture enjoying long holiday.
